CAIRO: The Ismailia Misdemeanor Court sentenced Saturday a former assistant of Ismailia Security Director, a former prison director, his aide, and nine other police officers to three years in prison and a fine 5,000 EGP ($700) each over a jailbreak in July, Aswat Masrya reported.

Two felons, one of whom on death row, escaped in July 2014 from Ismailia Future Prison. According to the investigations, the defendants were bribed by the felons to facilitate the jailbreak.

In August 2014 Attorney General Hisham Barakat referred the defendants to court on charges of profiteering and violating the executive rules of the prison sector.

On Jan. 6, three policemen were sentenced to life in absentia; eight others were sentenced to 10 years in prison and one was sentenced to three years for raiding a prosecution office in Sohag, Youm7 reported.

The Sohag Criminal Court accused the policemen of cursing and swearing at the prosecutors in their office in the Upper Egyptian governorate.
