CAIRO: Following a suggestion of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, 19 out of 24 invited parties met Saturday night in Al-Wafd party headquarters to discuss discussing the probability of forming a one party list for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Al-Wafd party head Sayed Al-Badwy issued a statement shortly after the meeting to announce an agreement to establish a committee to prepare a political document of the “one national party list,” Youm7 reported. The committee will include a number of known political figures such as former Minister of Social Solidarity Ahmed Al-Borei and former parliament member Amr Al-Shobki.
Badwy added that the parties decided not to discriminate on the basis of age of the each other’s party, and that the committee will set the procedure for the formation of the one party list.
The parties also named Sameh Ashour, the head of the Lawyers’ Syndicate as a jury chairman among the candidates.
The 2015 parliamentary elections, scheduled from March 21 to May 7, are the final step of the three-stage political roadmap outlined by the military following the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
