CAIRO: Media outlets planning to cover the upcoming parliamentary election are required to submit applications starting from Wednesday until Feb. 1, High Elections Committee (HEC) spokesperson Judge Medhat Edris said Tuesday, Youm7 reported.

“Journalists are required to register themselves individually on the HEC’s website from Feb. 5-16 while coverage permits are scheduled to be delivered to journalists from Feb. 24 until March 12,” said Edris.

The registration process for Egyptian and international NGOs to apply for monitoring the election will be closed Tuesday, according to Edris.

The parliamentary elections will be held in two phases; the first will be held on March 21-22 for Egyptian expatriates and March 22-23 for locals while the second phase is to be held on April 25-26 for expatriates and April 26-27 for locals.

14 governorates, including Giza, Alexandria and most Upper Egypt governorates are scheduled to vote in the first phase while 11, including Cairo, Sinai and Port Said are scheduled to vote in the second.

The parliamentary election is the final step in a political roadmap the army announced in July 2013 after its removal of Mohamed Morsi following mass protests against his rule.
