CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will visit Morocco after having accepted an invitation from Moroccan Monarch Mohammed VI, announced presidential spokesperson Alaa Abdel Fatah in a statement.
“His Majesty King Mohammed VI invited the President to visit the Kingdom of Morocco, which was welcomed by the president who promised to meet this invitation. He (Sisi) also invited His Majesty to visit Egypt as soon as possible” the statement read.
The invitation was addressed in a phone call between both leaders, Youssef added.
Tuesday’s call came four days after Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shokry visted Rabat to heal the rift caused between both countries.
The ties strained over the past few weeks following remarks by Moroccan state-owned channels describing President Sisi as a “coup orchestrator.” Moroccan state-owned T.V. RTM broadcaster said Jan. 1 that “Egypt has lived, since the military coup that was orchestrated by the Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in 2013, off the chaos and breakdown of security.”
