CAIRO: An alleged takfiri militant was killed Wednesday after a he tried to place a bomb outside a police station in the Delta governorate of Dakahlia, Youm7 reported.

The alleged terrorist, Samir Mansour Sobhy, was reported to be wearing an explosive belt and affiliated with Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis, a terrorist group based in Sinai.

Security forces followed the suspect and when they ordered him to surrender, he threatened to detonate himself. Police responded with live bullets, security forces told Youm7.

Security forces in North Sinai also announced Wednesday they had foiled five attempts to target soldiers and officers in Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuwayed.

Youm7 reported that Wednesday night, number of alleged terrorists riding motorcycles appeared suddenly around the Sheikh Zuwayed police station shooting at soldiers; when the police responded with live fire the shooters withdrew.
