CAIRO: A fire broke out at a factory for insulation materials in Qalubiya governorate Friday night and has not yet been extinguished at the time of writing.
Fire crews responded to the blaze which has lasted for more than 11 hours; the fire caused a disruption to traffic movements on the Agricultural Road in Meet Nama district in Qalyub city.
Civil Protection and Security forces headed immediately to the fire site to prevent the extension of the fire to the nearby homes; 18 fire trucks and 12 ambulances were sent by the Qalubiya governor Mohamed Abdel Zaher to the factory which stands on an area of 2,000 square meters.
Six fire vehicles were also sent by the armed forces to assist.
Sources at the fire site told Youm7 that the fire has injured nine among residents and also caused the partial collapse of surrounding buildings.
A security source at the fire site also told Youm7 that the preliminary investigations showed that a short circuit caused ignited the fire, and the raw materials in the factory fed the spread of the flames.
