CAIRO: A 17-year-old student was killed during Friday protests ahead of the fourth anniversary of the January 25 Revolution.
Sondos Reda was fatally shot by birdshot during clashes between security forces and pro-Muslim Brotherhood demonstrators in Alexandria. The Freedom and Justice Party branch in Alexandria identified Reda.
An official in Alexandria Governor office, Ayman Abdel Moneim, said Reda was transported to a hospital, eastern of Alexandria after she was shot, but shy died there; he added that other two injured, a man and his wife, were transported to the hospital as well, Veto gate reported.
The Ministry of Interior is on alert in anticipation of possible protests and attacks Sunday; the assistant minister of interior for transportation police told Youm7 that railway stations and metros will be “highly secured” in cooperation with the National Security Services and the Civil Protection authority.
CBC channel reported Saturday that 12 armored vehicles had been deployed in the vicinity of Tahrir Square.
