CAIRO: Extremists are trying to push the police into street fights in slums, police spokesperson Hany Abdel Latif told ON TV Wednesday, referring to clashes in Cairo’s Mataria Jan. 24-26.

Abdel Latif claimed that “rioters” in Mataria do not reside in the neighborhood, and that those arrested have given information about others, whom the police are undertaking intensified security campaigns to find them.

He added that the police are observing websites that incite violence, and will arrest people administering them after producing a prosecution permit.

Some 23 people were killed on the fourth mark of the revolution, the majority of whom in the blue-collar district of Mataria in northern Cairo.
