CAIRO: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will represent Egypt during the handover ceremony of the chairpersonship of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) Saturday, Youm7 reported.

Shoukry, who heads the Egyptian delegation in the 24th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, will receive the CAHOSCC’s chairpersonship from Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and Coordinator of the Committee.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was scheduled to represent Egypt during the ceremony, but he cut short his visit to Ethiopia and returned to Egypt Friday afternoon, in the wake of Thursday attacks in the Sinai that killed more than 29 security personnel.

The attendees of the AU summit are scheduled to discuss Egypt’s proposal to establish a mediation support and conflict prevention unit at the African Union Commission, within Egypt’s initiative to support the mediation and conflict prevention capacities of the African Union.

At the end of the ceremony, heads of state and of government are to discuss several African issues including international solidarity against Boko Haram, the report of the commission on the ebola crisis and an education initiative for peace through inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue.
