CAIRO:  The Interior Ministry Saturday denied a bomb blast took place in the Sheraton district near the Cairo International Airport, Youm7 reported.

Hany Abdel Lateef, the ministry spokesperson, told Youm7 that it was an ordinary fire due to a short circuit in Ahmed Ismail Street, Sheraton, and he added it was controlled by civil protection forces.

Earlier same day, media outlets reported that a bomb blast took place in Sheraton but no one was injured. The police forces closed streets near the fire location, monitoring the place searching for any clues.

On Jan.24, a booby-trapped car exploded in Alf Maskan Square near the Ain Shams district in Cairo, injuring 6 soldiers.

Two Interior Ministry assistants were in the district during the explosion, and may have been targets of the attack, security forces told Youm7.
