CAIRO: U.S. President Barack Obama appeared with a selfie stick, making funny faces and trying new looks in a Thursday unusual video that encourages subscriptions in healthcare plans.
In the video titled “Things Everybody Does But Doesn’t Talk About,” Obama appeared looking at himself in the mirror, showing his tongue, winking, making basketball player’s gestures and smiling for a selfie picture.
He also appeared rehearsing, where he said “the deadline for signing up for health insurance is February 15. In many cases you can get health insurance for less than $100 a month. Just go to HealthCare.gov to figure out how to sign up.”
The video was produced and released by the American entertainment website Buzz Feed on Thursday. The website conducted an interview with Obama a day before releasing the video, in which he discussed the importance of health care.
“How did we get Obama to use a selfie stick? Oh, because he wants you to go to https://www.healthcare.gov,” said BuzzFeed.
In an opinion article appeared on Washington Post Thursday, Writer Erik Wemple found the video “[c]ute, catchy, well-produced — and it’s an advertisement for a White House initiative.”
The video has gone viral on social media, where users shared Obama’s quotes of the video, like when he said “yolo” and “Can I live?” Some other users mocked the president’s “dirty mirror” that appeared in the video.
Since its release on Thursday, it received lots of comments varying between praising Obama’s sense of humor and criticizing the timing of the video amid crises the U.S. is trying to deal with including the IS group.
Fox News host Greta Van Susteran slammed Obama’s video that she thought it was filmed on Feb.10, the same day that the U.S. hostage Kayla Mueller was confirmed killed by ISIS.
She added during her show “I have a good sense of humor and I think it’s important to get your message out. For me, on the day that we are learning about Kayla Mueller being confirmed dead…it is so tone deaf and bad taste.”
