CAIRO: A police conscript was killed and three police personnel were injured early Sunday after unknown assailants opened a barrage of gunfire on their post in Qalyubia governorate in north-eastern Egypt, Youm7 reported.
The injured were transferred to the Banha University hospital in critical condition.
Police officials at the site told Youm7 that police forces were among a patrol securing the road leading to both Gharbiya and Menoufia governorates, both in the northern part of Egypt. The forces were surprised by gunfire from the attackers, causing four injuries and damages to the forces’ vehicles.
One of the injured was pronounced dead by the hospital upon arrival.
Investigations are being carried out into the attack to reveal more details about the incident.
At the meantime, rapid response teams forces headed to the site, where a manhunt was launched to arrest the perpetrators.
Similar attacks have been reported by media almost on a daily basis, as heightened security measures are being carried out by security forces to confront such attacks.
