CAIRO: Egypt condemns the killing of four Tunisian police officers in the central Kasserine region, according to a Wednesday statement by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdel Atty.
“Around 20 terrorists attacked a checkpoint and killed four police. They opened fire on the checkpoint and then they fled with the police weapons,” Reuters reported Tunisian Interior Ministry spokesperson Mohamed Ali Aroui.
Abdel Atty expressed Cairo’s full solidarity with Tunis at these “critical circumstances,” and offered condolences to the families of the victims and the people and government of Tunisia.
For his part, Aroui said that an al-Qaeda affiliated group perpetrated the attack. Religiously-motivated armed groups are especially active along the Tunisian-Algerian borders.
