Eleven members of the Muslim Brotherhood were sentenced to life in prison by the Suez Military Court on Tuesday, Sep. 3. The court’s verdict comes in response to charges against the defendants for their actions in the wake of the forced dispersal of the Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda sit-ins on August 14.

Military prosecutors  charged the defendants with inciting attacks on churches and troops, facilitating the killing of citizens, burning three churches in Suez, setting fire to five armored vehicles belonging to the Third Field Army, assaulting public buildings, blocking roads, and spreading chaos in Suez.

The military prosecution said those violent attacks led to the death and injury of citizens.
