CAIRO: Egypt announced that it will waive its request hosting the 2017 African Cup of Nations to Algeria FIFA Executive Committee member Hany Abu Rida was quoted by Youm7 Friday.
Abu Rida added that it doesn’t make sense for two Arabian countries to be competing to host the same international competition.”Egypt will not compete with Algeria, on contrary we will give the best support we can.”
Earlier in Nov.2014, The Egyptian Football Association announced that it has issued a formal request to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
Egypt, along with Algeria, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe, have also submitted bids to host the 2017 tournament.
It is worth noting that Egypt last hosted the tournament in 2006 where they were crowned champions after beating Ivory Coast on penalties.
