Steel tycoon Ahmed Ezz barred from running in parliamentary election

CAIRO: Steel tycoon Ahmed Ezz, a key figure during the regime of President Hosni Mubarak, who was later charged with several counts of corruption  was excluded Sunday from running for in March’s scheduled parliament elections, announced the Egyptian High Elections Committee.

The committee said that Ezz did not submit the necessary financial disclosure report before the close of the registration window to declare candidacy.

Ezz is awaiting a retrial in two separate cases, for illicit gains and embezzlement.
