13 ‘terrorists’, 1 officer and 1 civilian killed in N Sinai

CAIRO: A military officer died Friday night, and another was injured due to a Rafah -Gaza tunnel collapsing, Youm7 reported.

The injured officer was immediately transferred to the Arish Military hospital.

Also on Friday, military sources reported the killing of 13 armed men; 12 others were in separate places in Sheikh Zuwayed. Also two alleged terrorist bases were reported to be destroyed during the operation according to Youm7.

A civilian woman was reported to be killed inside her house in Rafah Friday night, after her house was hit by a shell, among number of anonymous sources shells that often targets civilian homes in N. sinai.

Eyewitnesses told Youm7 Friday night that militants were seen showing in N. sinai with armored vehicles   and weapons, shooting bullets on the air for the second time in a week. Witnesses also reported seeing the flag of the Islamic State group.

Last January, a terrorist attack by Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis killed more than soldier and officer in N. Sinai. Following an attack in October that killed more than 20 soldiers, a state of emergency was established in the governorate, and a 1-km buffer zone along the Rafah border was established, requiring the evacuation of more than 1,000 families from their homes.
