CAIRO: The Saturday ruling of an Egyptian court to list Hamas as a terrorist organization is a “great shame disgracing the reputation of Egypt,” the Palestinian group said on Twitter Saturday.

Hamas added that the Saturday ruling is a “desperate attempt to export Egypt’s internal crises.”

Cairo Court for Urgent Matters, which issued the ruling, designated Hamas’s Qassam Brigades as a “terrorist organization” Jan. 31. The court’s decisions were based on lawsuits claiming the groups partook in “terrorist operations” in Egypt.

Listing Qassam Brigades as a terrorist organization was slammed by Hamas, which said the decision was politicized.

“History has recorded Egypt’s support to national liberty movements in the Arab world and Africa, particularly in Palestine; this rule is a coup against history, Palestinian rights and Egypt’s known principles and values,” said Hamas’ political bureau deputy chairman Mousa Abu Marzouk on his Facebook page Jan. 31.
