CAIRO: A total of 168 people were sentenced to two years in prison Saturday for “attempting to raid” the U.S. embassy in Cairo in September 2012, according to Youm7.

Protesters scaled the walls of the embassy in 2012 in reaction to a film produced in the U.S. that was deemed deeply offensive by Muslims in Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood, whose Mohamed Morsi was in power at the time, and Salafi Nour Party officials called for protests against the film, but asked demonstrators to stage their sentiments away from embassies after clashes erupted outside the American embassy.
