CAIRO: A military conscript and an officer were killed and six were injured after an explosive device detonated near their location south of Sheikh Zuwayed in North Sinai, Youm7 reported.
The bomb was remotely detonated, killing two soldiers outside the vehicle and injuring the rest inside. They were transferred to Arish military hospital, and security forces are combing the area in search of the perpetrators.
Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, an affiliate of the Islamic State group, often monitors armored vehicles to detonate the bombs they had planted and film the attack.
A massive military crackdown in North Sinai has killed and jailed hundreds of alleged militants since 2013. In January, over 30 soldiers were killed in the area by a suicide bomber in a car bomb; operations in the same technique have reportedly been foiled since then.
In October 2014, dozens of soldiers were killed in the same manner, as militants raided their unit after the bombing and executed survivors.
