CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi invited Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to attend the opening of the new Suez Canal and said there is “no going back” regarding relations between the two countries in a news conference Tuesday.
Sisi traveled Monday to Ethiopia after signing the Declaration of Principles on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Khartoum. He noted that the declaration was an important first step on the path toward greater cooperation between the three countries [Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia].
Sisi said the two nations agreed on most points during their talks, especially regarding national security issues on the African continent.
According to a presidential statement Monday, Sisi said during a meeting with Desalegn that the Declaration of Principles on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a “powerful commitment to clearer understanding and better coordination.”
