CAIRO: A little girl was killed Wednesday in Fayoum after she found an explosive device outside her school; she picked it up to carry home and it detonated in her hands near her place of residence, Youm7 reported.

Menna Sayed, 10, was the first to get out of the school to find a “curious object” placed in the area by “terrorists to target students,” an official source at Fayoum security directorate told Youm7. Fayoum lies southwest of Cairo.

The area is being combed by the police in search for any other explosive objects, the source said, adding that Menna “saved her colleagues.”

This is the third such incident to kill a civilian this month. A civilian was killed and five were injured March 8 after a bomb detonated near a Carrefour market in Alexandria. On March 2, two civilians were killed outside the High Judicial Court in the busy downtown Cairo.

Attacks that kill civilians in Egypt are often not claimed.
