Officer killed in armed attack near former Interior Minister’s house

CAIRO: An officer was killed Wednesday night in Suez after a group of four armed men attacked a security check point near the home of former Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim, Youm7 reported.

The attackers approached in a grey car and opened fire on the home, and security forces gave chase and exchanged fire. During the firefight, Major Mohammed Suwayilam, chief  of detectives at the Ganayen Police station was fatally shot, Youm7 reported.

Major General Tarek Al-Gazzar, Assistant Interior Minister for Suez Security told Youm7 Thursday that forces are monitoring the entire governorate searching for the rest of the armed men, adding that a military funeral is being prepared to Major Suwayilam.

In September 2013 Mohamed Ibrahim escaped an assassination attempt near Nasr city.
