CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has invited Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to visit Egypt to discuss means to enhance joint relations, according to a Friday presidential statement.

Sisi made a phone call to Lee to pay his respects to late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, whom Sisi described as the “engineer of the Singaporean economy.” The former politician, who died March 23, was the founder of modern Singapore, and is credited with creating an economic leap for the city-state during his three-decade rule.

The Egyptian president expressed his wish to make his country’s relations with Singapore “distinguished.”

Sisi also recently invited Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to visit Cairo to strengthen cooperation.
