Cairo: Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi thanked President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi Friday for participating in the joint military operation Resolute Storm led by Saudi military against Houthi forces, a statement by the Egyptian presidency announced.

Hadi arrived Friday night to Sharm al-Sheikh international airport to participate in the 26th Arab League summit, and was received by President Sisi.

Resolute Storm started Thursday and is expected to last for few days according to Yemeni foreign minister Ryad Yassien. He added in statements reported by Youm7 Friday that the military operation was needed “temporarily” to support President Hadi’s legitimacy.

U.S. and Saudi-backed Hadi was forced to resign his post when Shiite Houthi forces gained control of the Yemeni capital Sanaa in January. He escaped in February to his home region of Aden, where he claimed he was still the legitimate president, and that Aden was the new capital of the nation. Hadi is still recognized by most nations as the Yemeni head of state, however Iran, which has backed the Houthis, has characterized their takeover as a revolution, and has called for an end to military strikes.
