CAIRO: Ajnad Misr claimed responsibility for a Saturday Cairo University explosion that injured nine persons.

In a tweet on their official account, Ajnad Misr, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by Egypt as well as the United States, wrote they had planted the bomb.

Forces securing the area prohibited access to cars on the road as they combed the surrounding of the bombing in search for any other explosive devices.

Youm7 reported that the gates of the university were closed after the explosion that took place near the metro station exit onto the Giza Bridge leading to Sudan Street near the university remains blocked.

Earlier January, Ajnad Misr claimed responsibility for a bomb that killed an officer who was defusing it in the Talbia district in Giza.

Ajnad Misr claimed it made the bomb without shrapnel in order to avoid injuring passersby; three civilians were, however, injured in the bombing.
