CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi promised Thursday to restore a dilapidated house of an elder woman who had asked him for a new one, a presidency statement announced.
Najiba Khalaf, 75, is living with her three children in a 35 square meters (376 square feet) house that consists of two floors in Minya governorate. The walls of the house are full of cracks and eroded, which has caused the house to be on the verge of collapsing.
“I am an old woman and these are my children, we live in this house that is about to fall over our heads and we live on the aid of our neighbors,” Khalaf told Youm7 an interview Wednesday.
Khalaf is blind, and received a monthly pension of 315 EGP ($41) every month that is not sufficient to her family’s needs. “I do not know my real age; I have lost the sense of time,” she added.
“Please build us a new house before you find our bodies under its wreckage,” her 40-year-old daughter asked the president in her interview with Youm7.
According to the presidency statement, which came in response to Khalaf’s calls, Sisi ordered restoration start within the coming hours, during which Khalaf and her family will be moved to another house until the repairs are complete.
