CAIRO: Dozens of Muslim Brotherhood (MB) supporters have staged a protest in Cairo’s northern district of Mataryia after the Friday prayer, Youm7 reported.
The protesters reportedly fired bird shot at security forces which replied with tear gas leading the MB supporters to withdraw to side streets, security source told Youm7 adding that no casualties were reported.
Five people were arrested for staging an unlicensed protest, the source said.
Since the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013 following a mass protest against his regime, security forces have cracked down harshly on Morsi supporters killing hundreds in clashes and arresting thousands.
Dozens of security forces also have been killed across the nation by either roadside bombs or attacks on military and police checkpoints and institutions.
Pro-Muslim Brotherhood still attempt to stage protests demanding reinstatement of Morsi.
