CAIRO: U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State group (IS), General John Allen, arrived in Cairo early Sunday, Youm7 reported.
Allen is to meet a number of Egyptian officials to discuss the latest developments of the global coalition to combat IS.
Last September U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called for a global coalition to counter IS, and to support the countries that are most threatened.
“The cancer of ISIS will not be allowed to spread to other countries. The world can confront this scourge, and ultimately defeat it,” Kerry added.
Over 60 states joined the coalition and have contributed in various capacities to counter IS.
A Libyan branch of IS released a video in mid-February showing the beheading of 20 Egyptian Christians; Egypt responded to the murders by targeted airstrikes against IS targets in Eastern Libya.
