CAIRO: Three members of Rafah security forces were killed after their armored vehicle was bombed by an explosive device planted on their way, medical sources told MENA Monday.
The sources said that the blast left a conscript injured, while some news outlets reported a conflicting number of injuries.
The three victims and the injured were transferred to the hospital.
Security forces have reportedly launched a hunt for the perpetrators and combed the area in search for other potential IEDs.
Security personnel and services in North Sinai are frequently targeted by Islamist militants, which have launched several attacks and killed hundreds of soldiers since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.
The military has announced an intensive crackdown ongoing against threats of the expansion of the Islamist insurgency in the tip of the peninsula. Scores of killed militants, seized weapons and uncovered smuggling tunnels on the Rafah-Gaza border have been regularly announced by the army.
