CAIRO: A 500-ton Nile carrier ship with a load of phosphate sank in Qena after crashing into a pillar on the Dandara Bridge, Youm7 reported.

The ship was coming from Aswan to Cairo, and all cargo was lost into the river after the crash; no casualties were reported.

Engineer Hany Hamdy, Chairman of Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in Qena, said that phosphate is a sedimentary material and it is not likely to have an adverse effect on drinking water.

Hamdy added that the company closed 5 drinking water stations in the area and a team was sent to collect water samples to be examined.
