CAIRO: A total of 380 prisoners are scheduled to be released on Saturday, the 33rd Sinai Liberation Day, per a January presidential decree pardoning those with final sentences, MENA reported Friday.
Releasing prisoners is a tradition during national holidays in Egypt.
The announcement of the decision came after a meeting at the High Security Committee at the Ministry of Interior.
The would-be released prisoners have served half the term of their jail sentences, in accordance with the regulations of the January decree, which exclude those with offences like: violence crimes or attacking public or police properties.
Since the decree’s issuance, dozens of prisoners have been released. During this month, 92 prisoners were released, and in March, some 68 inmates were out as well.
The prosecution also released 120 detainees pending investigations in March after reviewing their legal status.
