CAIRO: Civil Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal ordered investigations into a video that aired on TV Monday showing a donkey wandering outside Cairo International Airport, Youm7 reported.

The 40-second video shows the donkey being chased by a janitor in the parking lot outside the international terminal. The video was aired on several TV satellite stations Monday and has drawn a wide range of sarcasm.

“Even the donkey hopes to leave the country,” Abdalla commented on Youm7.

Sources at the ministry told Youm7 that security officials at the airport eventually caught the animal and immediately took him outside the airport. The minister ordered to review the surveillance cameras at the airport to verify how the donkey entered the airport, according to the source.

Known for its high security measures, the entrances of Cairo airport are often protected with checkpoints throughout the day.

On Feb. 3, the airport authorities tightened security after finding two unexploded bombs near the arrivals hall. Security officials were reviewing video footage to try to determine who planted them.

“The airport’s VIP lounge should be opened to accommodate the brave donkey,” Fouad Ezz el-Arab commented on Youm7 website page.
