CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is scheduled to visit the Spanish capital Madrid April 29-30, after his visit to Cyprus, in a response to an invitation from King Felipe VI, according to the presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef, Youm7 reported.
Sisi is to hold a bilateral talk with King Felipe VI and another meeting with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy; the president is also scheduled to sign a number of bilateral agreements.
“The Spanish King will host a banquet in honor of Sisi Wednesday, which signifies the special interest King Felipe VI gives for Sisi’s visit,” said Ahmed Ismail Abdel Moaty, Egyptian Ambassador in Spain.
Official meetings are scheduled to start Thursday with the managers of 15 major Spanish companies, with the presence of the Spanish Minister of Economy and Finance, Youm7 reported.
Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria López, decided to interrupt his current visit in China to participate in the talks that will be held by the Egyptian president with the Spanish senior officials in Madrid Thursday.
“Spain is looking forward to extend its relations with Egypt regarding the trade, investment and industrial fields,” said Abdel Moaty.
Sisi’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties with Spain; Spanish investment in Egypt has exceeded 700 million Euros in the fields of gas, cement, renewable energy, automotive industry and railroads.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was invited to visit Spain during his meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister José García-Margallo y Marfil on Dec. 27, 2014 in Cairo.
According to a released presidential statement, Sisi welcomed the invitation addressed from King Felipe VI of Spain, and praised the strong relations between the two countries.
The meeting with García-Margallo included discussions of a number of national and international topics according to presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef in the release.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was also present at the meeting, and he discussed with his Spanish counterpart encouraging Spanish investment in Egypt.
Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria López, represented Spain in Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) that was held in Sharm el-Sheikh in March 2015, along with 20 Spanish companies.
