CAIRO: Some 900,000 high-efficiency LED bulbs have been distributed across Egypt as part of a 10-million-bulb campaign launched by the Ministry of Electricity in February, Youm7 reported Saturday.
The campaign aims to curb electricity consumption by 350 megawatts at peak hours, to alleviate power cuts that often happen in the summer, when grids are overloaded.
All nine electricity distribution companies in Egypt have received 1,600,000 LED bulbs from the ministry to be distributed within the coming weeks starting from Sunday across villages and heavily populated districts.
Installment payments are available for residents who receive only four bulbs per person.
The North Cairo Distribution Company announced it launched home delivery and free installation services.
