CAIRO: Conscript Nashat Mukhtar, 21, died Sunday evening of injuries inflicted in the morning when a bomb detonated under his M60 tank east of Arish, North Sinai, security and medical sources in the governorate told Youm7.

An officer and another conscript were slightly injured in the attack, and the tank’s tracks were broken, a military source told Youm7.

Three other explosive devices were neutralized on the forces’ routes in Sheikh Zuwayed and Rafah, and an attack on a checkpoint was foiled from afar, the source said.

Security forces arrested 17 suspects in campaigns in Sheikh Zuwayed, Rafah, south and east of Arish, and Bir al-Abd to the north of middle Sinai Sunday and early Monday, he added.

A total of 23 “terrorist hubs,” including shacks and vehicles were destroyed.

Meanwhile at the site of establishing a buffer zone along the borders with Gaza, six tunnels were destroyed among hundreds of tunnels that have been discovered since the area was evacuated.
