CAIRO: Three Al-Azhar University students were injured after an explosive device they were manufacturing detonated inside their apartment in Nasr City Tuesday; one of them had his hand blown off, Youm7 reported.
Some residents of Nasr City, where Al-Azhar University is also located, reported the explosion to the police. They found the three students lying in bad conditions inside the apartment, and transferred them to a hospital.
Investigations to reveal the students’ “funders” and “terrorist cell” are underway, according to Youm7.
Although dozens of military and police officers and civilians, aside from the insurgency in North Sinai, have been killed by explosive devices detonating remotely, perpetrators have occasionally fallen victims to their own bombings due to the amateurism of some of them.
Most recently, four were killed April 24 in Beni Suef, Upper Egypt, after explosives went off inside a small building they used to manufacture bombs, according to the police.
