CAIRO: A suspect in the shooting death of a conscript was arrested Wednesday in the northern city of Damietta, Youm7 reported.
Police raided El Basarta Village in search for alleged pro-Muslim Brotherhood protesters who escaped after opening fire Tuesday at residents and soldiers during an anti-army and police march. Confrontations between protesters and the police left 21 citizens and personnel injured.
A Wednesday statement by the Damietta Security Directorate said that some 70 partook in the march, of whom 16, mostly women, were arrested in Tuesday clashes.
An eight-year-old boy was injured in his right eye and was referred to emergency hospital in Mansoura to follow up on his case.
A security cordon was imposed around the Basarta village, closing entries and exits, in an effort to arrest the perpetrators.
