CAIRO: Former president Hosni Mubarak will be placed in Tora prison temporarily until the Public Prosecution officially calculates the remaining period for his imprisonment over the “presidential palaces” case, a security source told Youm 7 Saturday.

The defendants were accused embezzling an estimated 125 million EGP of state funds that were allocated to renovate the presidential palaces; they appealed an initial verdict released in May 2014.
However, Egyptian penal code stipulates then when the final verdict is released, the period which the defendant spent in custody pending investigations or trial, must be deducted from the prison sentence. Mubarak and his sons have already spent more than three years in detention.
