3 ‘takfiris’ killed, 23 arrested in N. Sinai operation: security sources

CAIRO:  Some 3 alleged takfiris were killed in military operations against militants in Sheikh Zuwayed, North Sinai, security sources told youm7 Sunday.

The sources added that the some 23 suspects and alleged militants were arrested in the operations, and 9 “terrorist hubs” Were destroyed.

One soldier was injured during a “terrorist attack” in Sheikh Zuwayed in the governorate Sunday; he is being treated at Arish Military Hospital, according to Youm7.

A police officer and a conscript were killed Friday in a drive-by shooting in Arish.

Egypt has witnessed a significant rise in militancy since the military-backed ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. According to the Interior Ministry, militant attacks have killed more than 500 security personnel since then.
