CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi congratulated U.K. Conservative Party Chairman David Cameron on his reelection as Prime Minister last week via phone call, the presidency announced  in a statement Thursday.

“The president expressed his will on strengthening bilateral relations with Britain, especially in terms of fighting terrorism ,” the statement added.

Following the military intervention that ousted Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, Britain suspended a number of projects with Egyptian security forces.

However, the bilateral relations have begun to improve as two deals were signed at the Egyptian Economic Development Conference (EEDC) in Sharm el- Sheikh in March: the first one worth $12 billion with British Petroleum, a subsidiary of British Gas (BG) Group, in the presence of UK Ambassador to Egypt John Casson, and other worth $4 billion between BG Egypt and the Ministry of Petroleum was signed.
