Pylon in Kerdasa bombed, trains in Mansoura-Sharqia halted due railway bombings

CAIRO: Explosive devices were planted beneath an electricity pylon in Giza’s Kerdasa while train traffic on the Mansoura-Sharqia railway line was temporarily halted Thursday after three bombs severed parts of the rods, Youm7 reported.

Seven explosive devices were planted beneath Kerdasa’s transmission tower; some of which detonated, damaging the tower. Egypt’s electricity pylons have come under frequent attacks since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi, while the country suffers a pressing energy shortage.

Meanwhile, five trains between the Delta cities of Mansoura and Abou Kabir were stopped for over four hours after explosive went off at separate places along the railway track.
