22 people, 7 minors sentenced to 5-10 years in prison over violence

CAIRO: A total of 22 convicts were sentenced to 10 years in prison and seven minors received sentences of five years in jail over violence Monday.

The charges include inciting violence, thuggery, disordering public security, vandalizing public and private properties in the vicinity of Cairo’s Qasr al-Koubba Palace in February 2013.

South Cairo Criminal Court fined the adult convicts 20, 000 EGP ($2,622) each and ordered surveillance for five years, Youm7 reported.

The incidents took place during the rule of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, who was ousted in July 2013 by the military following mass protests demanding an to his regime on June 30, 2013.
