NKARA: Turkish media reports say six people were injured when a power distribution unit exploded during a Kurdish party election rally attended by thousands of people.

The state-run Anadolu Agency said a policeman and five others were injured in the explosion Friday in Diyarbakir where Kurdish politicians were holding speeches.

Officials insisted the explosion was caused by the power transformer. It comes at a tense time, two days before Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Turkey, in which the Kurdish votes will be critical.
