CAIRO: An Egyptian delegation will participate in the 58th session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in Vienna June 10-19, Youm7 reported Tuesday.
Egypt will be represented in COPUOS by the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences Vice Chairman (NARSS) Alaa El-Din El-Nahry, Egyptian ambassador to Austria Khaled Shamaa and the representative of Egypt at the U.N. Tarek Youssef, Nahry told Youm7.
“The meetings of the committee will discuss the peaceful uses of the outer space in the management of water and natural disasters and in economic and social development,” said Nahry.
He added that meetings will highlight Egypt’s peaceful role in the field of outer space.
COPUOS was established in 1959 by the UN General Assembly to direct the outer space exploration to the benefit of humanity, peace, security and development. As of 2014, the committee’s member states are 76, according to COPUOS website.
