BEIRUT: Syrian state TV reports that rebels have shelled a government-held neighborhood in the northern city of Aleppo killing five and wounding 70, including many children.

The channel says Monday’s shelling hit the area of Rahman Mosque in contested Aleppo, Syria’s largest city and former commercial center.

The wounded include some 30 children, according to the television report.

Rebels have targeted government-held neighborhoods in the city in the past, killing dozens, while the Syrian air force has attacked opposition-held parts of Aleppo with barrel bombs, killing hundreds of people.
