CAIRO: A total of 38 NGOs, allegedly affiliated with the Muslim brotherhood, have been dissolved in Menoufia, Farag Suleiman, undersecretary of Ministry of Social Solidarity deputy in the governorate, said Tuesday.
In 2015, the number of Brotherhood civil society organizations in Menoufia, 72 kilometers away from Cairo, amounted to 58. Suleiman added.
The dissolution comes in light of the news NGOs law, as well as the designation of the Brotherhood as a “terrorist organization” in Egypt, he continued.
In May, Minister of Solidarity Ghada Wali dissolved 12 non-governmental organizations in six governorates, including Menoufia; in February, she dissolved 169 NGOs in nine governorates nationwide.
In September 2013, the North Cairo Criminal Court upheld a decision by late Attorney-General Hisham Barakat to freeze the assets of group’s members.
