CAIRO: Pro-Muslim Brotherhood TV presented Moataz Matar was sentenced to 10 years in prison in absentia Wednesday over attempting to topple the regime and inciting violence against state institution, Youm7 reported.

Dokki Misdemeanor Court convicted Matar, an Egyptian anchor at Turkey-based Al-Sharq channel, after a lawsuit was filed against him accusing him of inciting murder, broadcasting false news, disrupting public peace, spreading sectarian strife, and inciting to attack the police and army.

Late Attorney General Hisham Barakat had referred Matar to the court following investigations into the said accusations and Matar’s appearances on TV.
