Egypt’s naval forces foil illegal migration of 74 people travelling to Italy

CAIRO: The Egyptian naval forces foiled an illegal migration attempt to Italy near the Mediterranean city of Ras el-Tin Wednesday, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said in a statement.

On board of an Egyptian boat, 74 unauthorized migrants from different nationalities were trying to migrate to the Italian territories, Samir added. The investigations have been opened.

On Tuesday, 26 people were arrested in the coastal governorate of Beheira, northern Egypt, before illegally leaving to Italy.

Italian and Egyptian authorities have foiled many attempts of illegal immigration of asylum seekers, most of whom are Egyptians, Sudanese, Somalis, and Syrians.

On June 25, the Italian authorities deported 28 undocumented Egyptian migrants. Meanwhile, the Egyptian authorities have deported 47 Sudanese nationals to their country on June 19 after attempting to illegally immigrate to Italy through the Mediterranean Sea.
