Police captain shot dead in Bani Suef

CAIRO: A police captain was shot early Thursday in Bani Suef city in Upper Egypt by unknown assailants on a motorbike, according to statement by the Ministry of Interior.

Mohamed Essam, an officer at the criminal investigations department in Bani Suef, was killed in the hit-and-run incident; a means to murder officers that has often been followed since the military ouster of President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

Meanwhile in North Sinai, also early Thursday, 10 policemen were injured after a roadside bomb went off in Arish.

Hundreds of police and military servicemen have been killed in hit-and-run cases, improvised explosive devices detonated remotely and suicide bombings since 2013.
